Bergey's Teams Up With Habitat For Humanity

On Wednesday, April 14th, Bergey's Inc. and its employees donated a new 2004 GMC Sierra Pickup truck to a representative of Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County. Bergey’s relationship with Habitat for Humanity started several years ago when a member of the Bergey family, Renita Shelly, performed a year of volunteer work in California. Renita invited her father, Glenn Bergey, to join her in her efforts, and Bergey’s has been an active supporter of this worthy cause ever since.

In addition, a team of Bergey’s employees donated one day of work on a job site known as Emerald Hollow Estates located in Trumbauersville. Phase 1 of this development began in November, 2001, and is scheduled to be completed in June, 2005. The 37-home community consists of eight clusters of town homes with livable space of 1,100 to 1,600 square feet. Three clusters are completed, and 14 families have moved in! Families are required to put numerous sweat-equity hours of volunteer work in order to qualify, and 100% of the Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County homeowners are maintaining their mortgage payments. Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County was founded in 1990, and has provided homes for 89 people. The focus of Habitat for Humanity is to provide a “hand up” to deserving families, not a “hand out”. Their mission is to build affordable homes, better lives, stronger families and safer communities through partnerships with people and organizations throughout Bucks County. “Bergey’s is pleased to donate this vehicle to Habitat and to promote a team of employees to assist in this worthy endeavor. We look forward to the continued success and growth of this organization,” said Glenn.
